The area of the Charité hospital tells some fascinating stories of life and death. It all began in the 18th century with a pestilence house and took its way through history to become what it is now: one of the major university hospitals in Europe and the buildings themselves, relicts of important moments of medical history.

The Charité Tour will take the participants to the most significant places of the hospital. The walking tour begins at the famous Charité tower, goes on via the pathology where Rudolf Virchow did research, to the former pock house and, with visits to other institutes, finally to a less known district, where the anatomy of the university can be found.

In 2009 Berlin celebrated the 20 anniversary of the Fall of the Wall. In the summer of 1961 the East German government ordered the erection of the Berlin Wall. Since then, many attempts were made to dig tunnels through Berlin’s sandy soil in order to overcome the heavily guarded border. Sometimes this leaded to spectacular cloak-and-dagger operations, other times to betrayal and bitter failure. Enjoy an interesting tour and learn more about the escapes from Berlin to Berlin. See various photo exhibitions and visit the Bernauer Straße. There more than seven escape tunnels were attempted within a distance of just 350 meters of each other. Here you will hear tales of betrayal in addition to the story of the two most successful tunnels.
